"Participating in a therapeutic
riding program was one
of the best decisions that I
have made since returning
home from four combat tours
in Iraq. Being around my
horse made me feel relaxed
and calm. He brought out
some feelings that I haven't
used much while I was in
Iraq. I felt compassion and
wanted to earn his trust.
I feel better around my horse
than any amount of medication
has made me feel."

Peter the Peteeatrick Panda’s™ Playground Kid’s Parties

Teaching Literacy, Friendship, and Character Building

In the Peter the Peteeatrick Panda’s™ Playground Series, Peter Panda, the lovable main character, goes through life and health experiences with his friends Jeffrey the Long-Necked Giraffe and Hoppy the Bunny. There are related games and vocabulary exercises at the conclusion of each experience and chapter. A Peter Panda character acts out the story, while the author and volunteers read with each child having a book of their own. The coloring books, available in English and Spanish, walk a child reader through same day surgery and recovery in a fun way.

Reaching out to the community, the author and other volunteers make personal appearances to read, teach, and play games at schools, hospitals, libraries, and other appropriate public non-profit venues. A volunteer acting in the costume and character of Peter the Peteeatrick Panda will be included, when appropriate as part of the entertainment/teaching process. Participants receive copies of Peter the Peteeatrick Panda’s™ Playground Series free of charge.

A grammar school in New Jersey requested this program for “Character Building Week” for its Kindergarten through 5th grade students. These children experienced personal interaction with a nurse and author who is a college graduate but physically challenged, sharing their knowledge of health care vocabulary, and learning about writing, authoring, and learn how to relate their own stories, using their own fictional characters and settings.
